National Leadership Conference

July 9-15, 2011 340 Texas FCCLA STAR Event Competitors, officers, advisors, members, and sponsors attended the 66th National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California.  Delegates prepared to put their Imagination in Action at the NLC Live event by either working on their STAR Event, gearing up to learn great leadership skills, or even planning to meet life long friends.

The meeting started with the arrival of all delegates into the LAX airport and transported on a city tour of LA which ended at Universal Studios.  Members were allowed to look behind the scenes of Hollywood and enjoy the rides at the park as well. Hard Rock CafĂ© called our name as all the Texas delegates lined up to eat some delicious food.  Not long after eating, we headed to the hotel for a state meeting that pumped up the delegation for the week to come.

Sunday was a very eventful day.  There were State Officer Trainings, National Team Trainings, STAR Event helper orientation, STAR Event participants registration, another state meeting and the first National Officer Candidate letter drop where we found out that both of our candidates moved on to give their speeches the following day.

Monday kicked off with our first STAR Event competitors started putting their imagination in action by presenting their projects on which they had work so hard on. Kristy and Miguel both gave their speeches and did absolutely amazing.  The 2010-2011 National Executive Council kicked off the Opening General Session with grace and eloquence that excited all of the members at the meeting.

Tuesday morning we were told that Texas has two 2011-2012 National Executive Council members. After this great news, members and advisors broke off into training sessions.  STAR Event competitors were still going strong and all Texas members represented us well at the Business and Recognition Session.

Wednesday was filled with workshops and the FACS Knowledge Bowl in which Friona High School placed 4th in the nation. The Closing General Session and FCCLA Gala helped wrap up the amazing conference.

Thursday, the Star Event competitors brought in  91 Gold, 49 Silver, and 11 Bronze medals. Right after that session, Texas had their own pizza party to celebrate all the success of all the delegates at this meeting.  The celebration continued at Huntington beach and our very own dinner party on the Pacific ocean.

Everybody really enjoyed the Imagination in Action National Leadership Meeting along with the never ending dreams at Disneyland. Needless to say, we were proud of our STAR Event competitors along with Miguel Astello, 2011-2012 National Vice President of Programs, and Kristy Paquette, 2011-2012 National Vice President of Public Relations.
